Movie Review: Laxmi Bomb
Laxmi Bomb will compel you to throw chappals on your TV and phone screens.
In the midst of this pandemic, Akshay Kumar is here with his Diwali release: Laxmi Bomb. Does the magic of Khiladi Kumar continue? Is Akshay Kumar back with another blockbuster? Let’s find out.
Laxmi Bomb was announced as a horror-comedy. It’s trailer claims it is ‘funnily explosive’. But sadly Laxmi Bomb is neither funny nor explosive. The only thing it ends up becoming is IRRITATING.
After going through some of the ‘funny’ scenes of the film, you feel like throwing chappal at the screen, but sadly it is your phone or TV; hence you cannot do that. The comedy is so over the top that it looks like the director was on weed while writing these scenes.
Let’s take an example: In one of the scene, Laxmi hits a man who flies and lands up 10 meters away on the ground. His wife rushes to him, gets on her knees and start dancing on ‘Maar Daala’ from Devdas out of fear! Why? Because the woman was wearing a green saari! (I had to watch scene 3 times to get the ‘joke’). I still cannot understand..how on earth someone in such a big production company would have thought this is ‘funny’.
The screenplay is also over the place. The first half is so boring, and you can sleep for an entire 1 hour. The drama picks up some pace in the second half. But the proceedings are so nonsensical, even Race 3 looks like Mughle Azam in front of this film.
Every character in Laxmi Bomb competes on the fact, who can do the most amount of overacting. Some of the brilliant actors have been reduced to a caricature in this film.
The VFX is comical. Even the 90s shows: Shaktiman and Junior G used to have better animation. It’s probably the team would have realized the product they have made and decided not to waste money on VFX.
Songs have been planted in the film and make an already nonsensical film, more nonsensical.
Does anything work?
The saving grace of this film is Akshay Kumar’s acting in the second half. His dance on Bam Bole is phenomenal. But his performance solely cannot save this dead film on arrival.
Sharat Kelkar as Laxmi has also given a good performance. The other good thing about the film is the representation of the transgender community. But by the time you reach this part of the film, you are already exhausted.
Kaira Advani has nothing to do in the film. Same is true for rest of the cast.
Verdict: Neither funny nor scary… this BOMB is a phussi bomb ! Will give you headace !
